At Home Resources

We wanted to share some news we just heard about.  As many of you know, CCSD Food Services has been providing meals to our students while schools are closed. Additional distribution sites have been added throughout the valley, and one has opened within our community.  Beginning today, Green Valley High School will be a food distribution site for our families.  Premade meals will be distributed from 8-11 am.  One breakfast and one lunch will be provided for each child present.  No identification is required.  The address of Green Valley High School is 460 N. Arroyo Grande Blvd.  It is 1.7 miles from our school (6 minute drive or 35 minute walk).  I also wanted to give a shout out to our AMAZING teachers.  They have been messaging students, creating “at home” lesson plans and designing learning activities for our students.   They have gone above and beyond investigating and planning on- line learning platforms for our children.  Below are a few resources they have recommended specifically for our students.  We are thrilled to let you know that Accelerated Reader (AR) has opened up to allow students to access AR Quizzes at home!  Be sure to read for an hour every day and take some quizzes at home.  This is the time to use and apply all the strategies children have learned (going back to the text, reading all answer choices, etc) to help them become  better readers. Be sure to work on your reading goal and we will have special incentives for those students meeting their monthly goals at our next Duck Day!  :) Reading at home is the most important activity you can do!  With the recent closing of the County Libraries, we wanted to let you know about the Epic Service, Epic is a website that provides unlimited access to a library of thousands of great children’s books. The company has offered a free subscription to all children through the month of June . The free trial can be accessed at https://www.getepic.com/learn/freeremotestudentaccess/ or families can set up their own accounts at https://www.getepic.com In addition to these suggestions, the District has resources available on ccsd.net Know we are thinking of all of you during these stressful times.  Please continue to focus on the good and spend time reading together with your family each day.  Stay healthy and safe, The Gibson Staff
